if you already licensed from another state you won't have to take any tests,,they even accepted a USVI license-took my picture and I was on my way.

Another question...i was on the website but it wasn't clear...does the dmv need to see the vehicle or does it need a special state testing..we are moving from Utah to Elma permanently and won't have all our cars there at one time to begin with...but would like to get these utah plates off!
thanks..

In my experience and that of my friends, unless your vehicle is infamous for having been recorded as a getaway vehicle in some crime, there is no need for the DMV to "see" the vehicle. EXCEPT: for all vehicles over 5 years old, emissions testing must be done in order for you to receive the plates/tabs. But that's a different matter -- not an "inspection" of the vehicle just an inspection of the emissions. The test is inexpensive and lasts two years. The license tab has to be renewed annually (and paid for annually) but the emissions test is every two years.
Hope that helps! Elma is a lovely area and I'm sure you will enjoy living there.

Yes we love Elma..my mom was from Montesano, I have lots of cousins in Monte, Oly, Shelton and Hoquiam and we have a mobile home up there, and as soon as this place is sold we are outta here, at least for a year or two until we figure out what we are going to do with the rest of our retired old lives, haha. We are originally from So Cal and have grown sons in So Cal and Nor Cal. I personally can't take Utah much longer, its such a looong story.
Thanks for the help! Barb

I moved from Idaho to that area almost 4 years ago and my husband & I both had to take the WA drivers test to get our licenses here in WA. I had my license in Idaho for 18 years. I would check to see if the laws have changed since June 04
