Nothing to to with "protecting the environment"-everything to do with extorting more money from the taxpayers. We SHOULD be gutting support for unstable, unpredictable generating sources that require expensive, redundant backup power sources and that, due to their instability, threaten the power grid.

Also check out the corporations that are exempt from this tax. Its a total sham.

Yep. It's yet another WA-state-gov't tax-grab at the expense of the state's citizens and small businesses. But then they disguise it as a tax on the Rich Guys and the Big Bad Corporations, hoping we'll fall for it.

Not only that, they are trying to disguise it as a "fee" imposed on "large emitters." It also creates an "environmental and economic justice" panel, (whatever the hell that is) to decide how money is spent, all appointed by the governor. Gives new meaning to the term "special interests."

Politicians = taxes. They don't know any other way.

Carbon tax...good or bad? Sounds like it is just another tax. The dems claim it is the only thing that will save the planet.

If politicians want to save the planet start with China and India. Boycott trade with both until they get their pollution under control. See China below, don't see any thing close to this in Washington state.

I have spoken to a lot of the more liberal dems that I know and they are all opposed to this. It's been mostly the exemptions for some of the largest polluters, passing it on to consumers rather than it being a tax on the profits of the polluters, and the potential for lost jobs.

There is NO plan, evidence, or history that indicates a state organization will spend this money in a way that will benefit citizens. Do not support this bill.

If this bill was actually a tax on carbon polluters, and had scientific evidence that it would help, and had prohibitions in place that prevented large corporations from passing the costs down to the middle class, then I would support it.

As it is now, not a chance in hell.

It says a lot that our states own attorney general has his own ad on TV against this bill, and scary that we have enough wackos that something like this actually got this far.
