Question Highway 2 near Monroe, is it safe?

I have a friend whos relocating to Monroe, WA and he has found some homes near Highway 2 where I guess someone told him is the "main drag" to and from Monroe and all points East and that its a very dangerous and high traffic area.

Is this true? Could someone give me more details?

Thanks,

Bob

Hwy 2 isn't our favorite road because it's only two undivided lanes, full of twists and curves. It's the only road from Monroe through several towns and over Stevens Pass, so it does get a lot of traffic.
These might give you some insight:
HeraldNet: U.S. 2 safety improvements to come this spring
and
Snohomish County News | Highway 2 safety, funds fail to intersect | Seattle Times Newspaper
and
The Monroe Monitor & Valley News, Monroe, Washington, The Voice of the Sky Valley Since 1899

Unfortunately, the "safety improvements" will be only painted stripes and rumble turtles.

Hwy 2 does "suck". As do most roads/infrastructure in WA State. Yeah, the politicians fix is rumble strips and painted lines. Heck, drunk drivers manage to blast through the cable barriers on I-5, which is a divided highway.

522 is a great alternative for accessing Monroe from points south, such as Woodinville, Redmond or Seattle via 405/520/90.

But let's be real here. Cars are inherently dangerous, and I don't feel like my life is in any elevated state of jeopardy on 2. There is no "safe" roads when your dealing with other drivers.

Another point about Monroe in general is that it is supposedly a flood plain. If you saw the High School, it is built on a plateau. Most homes in the recently developed areas are in the lowlands. I'd be more concerned about that, they have not had a big flood in a while yet.

Yes these roads can be a lot of fun in the right hands and in the wrong hands can be dangerous. I luckily enough have pretty good hands (and eyes) and love driving all these highways. I haven't been on 2 in while.

Yeah Highway 2 is not very safe because there is not divider between opposite travelled lanes. A bad swirl by the coming vehicle and you are in a headon.

Traffid on this road sucks too. I would avoid using this road if possible
