We have lived in Warm Beach (unincorporated Stanwood, WA) for nearly 10 years. There have always been issues with dogs off-leash and there have been numerous times that I have had to change my running route due to a big dog (often dogs) blocking my path. Today while out running with my Border Terrier (18 lbs and on a leash as always) a large older black lab charged at us, bit my dog and then started to go after me! This is not the first time that this dog has been aggressive towards me, my dog and my husband and we have asked (and yelled) at the irresponsible owner in the past about this issue. He has never responded and has never put his dog on leash. This is the first time the dog has bit one of us. As I yelled and screamed and kicked the dog to get it away from us, the owner calmly walked out of the house and just stood there despite my yelling for him to get his dog! As my dog and I were able to move down the street a bit he finally came out and grabbed his dog by the collar and pulled it back towards his home.
I called the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office and they responded very quickly (THANK YOU!) and apparently animal control will be back out tomorrow to look into the matter further.
My point in posting this is two fold...1) I am trying to figure out if Warm Beach has a home owners association. I have looked all over the internet without finding anything but we have a small park in our neighborhood and every year there are organized events that are put on by an association so I figured we have one or something similiar to it but I have not found anything. If anyone has information on an association that would be great 2) I want to raise the awareness of just how dangerous it is to allow your dog to be off-leash. I cannot tell you how many people in our neighborhood allow their dogs to be off-leash and when I comment on such they always respond with "my dog is friendly." Yeah, your dog is friendly to you. To strangers...not so much. It is so irresponsible. Don't do it. Be a responsible dog owner. Do the right thing.
Anyway, the guy who owns the dog is a jerk. Hopefully animal control does the right thing and slaps a big ol fine on him!
