Default Info on Lake Stevens Please!

Sorry if I'm repeating but I'm new to this whole forum thing and desperate for info. We are packing it up and moving from Iowa to Washington. I have a friend who lives in Port Ludlow. Very beautiful but too retireyish (word?) I have 3 kids 18,13,and 6. Hubby will work on seattle side. Checked out Lake Stevens while out there. I liked it alot but have heard schools are bad. I know this sounds trivial but my 13 loves to skateboard but have heard the cops give kids a hard time about skateboarding. A waitress there told me that! Thanks for any info you all can share!

Hi. I'm not clear about something you wrote: "Hubby will work on Seattle side." Do you mean IN Seattle, or south of Lake Stevens, or maybe something else? His commute can be a serious factor determining where you want to live, since driving to and from work can get crowded and slow in many areas.

Here's the link to the Great Schools analysis and comparison:
GreatSchools.net
and the Washington State Report Card:

I think the Lake Stevens area is beautiful, but as I don't live there I did a search on City-Data to perhaps find some info for you. Here are some CD threads or posts that might offer some ideas:

If your hubby works anywhere south of Everett, then Lake Stevens is not a good idea. The main reason is TRAFFIC.

Highway 2 is a parking lot every morning and ever afternoon.
I-5 is a parking lot from Lynnwood all the way to Marysville. And the distance from Lynnwood to the on ramp to highway 2 is about 20 miles.

Unless you hubby has unique working schedule, it will take him 1.5 to 2 hours EACH way to go to work in Seattle either by bus or by car.

A better choice for you is Lynnwood near the park and rides. There are two, the Lynnwood Park and Ride and the Ashway Park and Ride. Both have direct bus service to downtown Seattle on the HOV lanes. It will take about 20 minutes from the P&R to Seattle.

If I were you, I would like near the Martha Lake area. Great school district, near P&Rs and good neighborhoods. This is were I live.

My husband is in sales and will have a territory that covers Seattle up to the Canadian border. Thanks so much for responding! I have no idea what I'm doing on this darn forum thing. It takes me 30 minutes to find my own posting to see if I got any responses. Anyway, since he's going to be working in such a big area we thought Lake Stevens would be kind of centralized. We checked it out while we were there in Jan. I really liked it, but I want to make sure we are somewhere my kids will be happy to. I'd hate to drag them away from their home here and then they hate it. Again thanks for the info, truely appreciate it!

The best wayt to navigate this forum is to search for "all posts posted by username".

To to that, go to search and advanced search.

Otherwise, it will take forever to find your posts.

Default Lake Stevens area

Lake Stevens actually has a great school district, as well as Marysville, Arlington , Granite Falls! Skateboarders are really only hasseled if bothering businesses, such as blocking patrons from entering buildings! We have several great skate parks in the area.
