gay friendly small tow
Hi Everyone,
My partner and I are looking for a small gay friendly town in WA. We currently live in Seattle and are tired of the high prices, rude and snotty people. We are not overtly gay but not crawling back into the closet either. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would think any town is friendly to gay people, I don't know why they wouldn't be. Western Washington is very open of everything.

I live just outside of Renton, and Renton is gay friendly and nobody would ever accuse it of being snobby...Port Townsend is another good choice if you don't need to commute to seattle.

Here in conservative eastern WA the Chelan valley is probably as good as it gets according to LGBT friends who have lived or visited here. It's a generally friendly town where people are accepted for who they are, but it's not an inexpensive place if you are looking to buy a house.

Boy, I hate to break it to you, but WA is not a cheap place to live. When you get into the smaller towns, you'll run into prejudice as well. Port Angeles is pretty easy going and hosts the Espirit which is a he/she convention. (Not sure of the proper terms, but you get my drift) Never bothered me, they were nice people and that's what really counts. Port Angeles is a depressed town due to no jobs and high cost of living. It's getting worse with gas and food prices and a lot of Port Angeles and Sequim is retirees. mod cut: link removed

If you are looking for affordability - - consider Centralia. It is 1/2 way between Seattle & Portland. The general area is pretty conservative - - however, the historic downtown is booming with new development and there are quite a few gay shop owners in the downtown. The Centralia College is bringing a new face to the town by really embracing diversity. If you are not "overtly gay" as you put it, I think you may find that Centralia is an up and coming area. Worth a look anyways - you can still get a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom house for $169,000. 'nuff said about the price of living there!

I just recently moved to Sequim and have met several gay people. It is my understanding that this area has a sizable gay community. The Dungeness Valley is beautiful, and the people friendly. And, to top it off, Sequim is the driest community in Western Washington.

My friend and his partner live in Bremerton which is actually one of the few affordable areas in the Puget Sound area. They love it and are very active in the local groups with no prejudice. Just an hour's ferry ride to Seattle!
