I would look for rentals in the Lynden Tribune or the Bellingham Herald. Both newspapers have online classifieds. I wouldn't consider anywhere in Lynden as a bad place to live. The whole town is very well manicured and kept up. Some homes around the fairgrounds can get pretty congested in August. Do you have a job there? You do know the whole town is extremely conservative right? Lynden is in the Guinness World Book of Records for the most churches in any city.

I'm curious why you are focusing on Lynden? It's a great town as mentioned and is in a very pretty area. It's just that most younger people ask about Bellingham, Seattle, the younger hot spots for that age.

It was not to long ago that the whole town of Lynden would shut down on Sunday. This included restaurants. Its probably as close to being amish as you can get around here .

hey thanks for the info you guys, yea i'm a left wing liberal and also a angnostic....so i dont think i would fit in Lynden, the reason i chose Lynden is because it is a smaller city, close to to the larger ones and i'm not the bigest fan of traffic and other problems that comes with citys over 100k in poplation but thank you verry much for the info

If you are intent on NW WA, try Fairhaven (So Bellingham), or go 'coastal'; Blaine, Birch Bay / Ferndale / for small, but... apartments will be ez'r to find in Bellingham, and more to your 'style', and is not too 'crowded'

if you are a card carrying liberal... you might consider Seattle central / Bainbridge Is., Eugene, OR. Plenty of like folks and causes to embrace.
If WA is important for taxes (high income...) then you can live in Vancouver, WA and scoot over to Portland, OR (10 Minutes) to satisfy any liberal or agnostic needs. (I have a friend who goes to the weekly agnostic group there, tho he's welcome to come to my Sunday School class...) I'm well 'trained in diversity' having worked for a major company who decided to embrace that, rather than stuff like 'profitability'. (they're not doing real well... like what happened to ATT in the '90's, when they ventured into 'social engineering' rather than minding their business)

There are many choices of smaller towns that would meet your needs in PNW, come out and shop around, get some news off the web for Portland / Seattle / Eugene, OR / Ashland, OR. Portland has some very nice areas that are virtually 'self supporting' and you can 'retreat' there and not have to deal with 'suburbia'. I like their idea of 'shared cars' (available by reservation to residents)!! Warning!! I think it is colder here PNW than there MN!! I suggest early May as a great time to view the rhodies (flowering trees) and experience some rain. Otherwise, July and August is our best weather, and lots of roses / flowers. Sept and Oct is pretty good and a bit of fall colors. Nov > March = cold and cloudy and likely wet.

OMG, you would be a fish out of water in Lynden! Like the other poster said, look into Fairhaven, much more liberal.

There are lots of liberals all over Bellingham, not just in Fairhaven. Fairhaven and South Hill are also increasingly expensive. The Elizabeth Park neighborhood is great, and in my experience a little more liberal than conservative.

Lynden is not your place. It's very conservative. No working or mowing your lawn on sunday, and the liquor section of all the grocery stores is roped off and closed on sundays. They require very strict upkeep in the city limits. Lawn must be cut and kept shorter than a certain measurement, or they will mow it for you and send you a rather large bill/fine. A buddy of mine moved out of Lynden after he was sent a letter by his landlord stating that his vehicle, a 70's orange toyota PU beat up "wheeler" was an eyesore and would be required to park across the street and down the street from the apartment building, or face eviction. This was an apartment with a garage, FYI...........
