Default Moving to WA, Need info on apartments near Ft. Lewis

I am a female in my early 20's relocating to the Ft. Lewis area in August. I'm from Orlando, FL and have been doing my research online, but need more information. I need to find an apartment (a studio will suit me just fine-certainly nothing larger than 1br/1b) that is no more than 20-30 min away from Ft. Lewis. I will be living alone and am looking for somewhere generally safe and reasonably priced. I'm used to living in a city and average city crime is to be expected. I just don't want to live somewhere that some people may call "ghetto". I've looked into many neighborhoods surrounding Ft. Lewis and even at specific apt. complexes, but need some info on people that actually live in the area. If anyone could recommend a decent area or maybe even some names of apartment complexes, that would be incredibly helpful. Thanks!

Hi Orlando Girl,

I would recommend checking out Dupont. It's really close to Ft. Lewis and has nice apartment complexes and condo units. For lower price options and about a 15-20 minute commute, I'd recommend Lacey. I'm not aware of any ghettos in those two areas. If you're looking to be close to night live, then perhaps the north end of Tacoma would be worth checking out. If you search for these locations on Craigslist, I'm sure you'll find plenty of options to choose from. Another source for apartments is the Ft. Lewis Housing Office, located in Waller Hall, where most of the in processing takes place.

Good Luck!

Sandy
