Questions about Leavenworth
I love visiting Leavenworth during the Christmas time, and I am thinking about moving to that area. I was wondering if anyone knows if Leavenworth is very diverse? When I hear about Eastern Washington, it doesn't really seem to have many different races there. Is that true? Also, is Leavenworth or the surrounding towns have good job options for teachers? Thanks!

Leavenworth is not necessarily to be connected with traditional "eastern" WA. It is pretty touristy, and part-time Seattle / westside residents. It will be spendy place to live, but pretty decent if you can handle the weekend / seasonal crowds (I grew up in Estes Park, CO, very similar, but nice when the crowds are gone)
Wenatchee is 20 Miles east and has lots of options for teaching / shopping. I like Cashmere (between the two). Would be tough for 'single life', but the folks I know from there really like it.
Racial diversity is well accepted in most of WA, the "other" diversity is more accepted in OR, tho plenty in WA too. Bilingual teaching is in high demand, especially in eastern WA. There are some areas with 2nd generation migrant populations that have some racial stigma. (Yakima, Quincy, ...)

that would be any of the other diversity issues which the promoters feel they have to ram down your throat, and you MUST agree with THEM and embrace their cause.
I'm a WA/OR border resident so I have to deal with Polar Extremism, and have watched many helpful CD posters get axed by disagreeing with someone on the OR forum. Tread lightly....
I have lived in several international and US destinations where I was a minority. I don't have an issue with accepting others, and see the value and benefit in diversity. BUT... there are those (people, companies, governments) who must toot their own horn to promote their views of social engineering. That is counterproductive, and WA in general does not have much of this (thank goodness).
on-topic, for OP. There is pretty good and inexpensive commuter bus services in the Wenatchee valley area, it goes to the surrounding towns and could be of benefit to you and your job / housing / activities.
Link Transit - Connecting Our Communities - Chelan and Douglas Counties, State of Washington - Home
You may find certain communities to fit you better, I find an interesting difference between; Farming, Logging, industrial, and tourist towns - you have some of each to choose from.

I lived in L'worth for 20 years. It is a BIG tourist town. If you don't like big crowds, stay away. Some festival weekends can draw tens of thousands of visitors. The main reason I decided to leave was the winter snows. As I get older snow has become more of a hindrance. I remember the winter of 2006/07 well: started snowing mid-October 2006 and we didn't see green grass until April 2007. That winter forced me to Arizona. Never again will I live where the potential for that much snow exists.
As for teaching jobs, I cannot comment. You will, however, find yourself in Wenatchee quite often if for nothing else other than shopping. L'worth is very limited as far as shopping goes, unless it's for trinkets and tourist crap. Otherwise, it is a pretty area. You will feel as if you'ved moved to Germany, Austria, or Switzerland. German is widely spoken as well as Spanish (lots of Mexicans due to the areas agriculture.)

Leavenworth is part of Cascade School District. Good schools, enrollment is dropping as Leavenworth property values are excluding families.
It is part of the Wenatchee Valley. Though there is a real social split between the up Valley people which tend to be more liberal, Seattle oriented, and sans kids. The lower Wenatchee Valley is more conservative, eastern Washington oriented, and families. The two groups get along fairly well, but it is an interesting contrast.
If you speak Spanish you can get a job in a heartbeat anywhere in the Wenatchee Valley. Outside of Leavenworth, Spanish is the language of the school kids.
