Best wine in Washington.
My wife is on vacation. I am not. (Must work....) She will be coming home in a week.
I want to surprise her. The usual...flowers....card. Ermmm...and a bottle of good Washington State wine.
What's the best wine in Washington State. Something not super dry, super oaky or super rich. Something that she would drink 8 oz. of and go OMG!!! ....I LOVE THAT WINE!!!..SO GOOD!!!! ....OMG!!!! ....that is FREAKING GREAT!!!. COME HERE!!!!!!
WOW! WOW!!!
WOWW!!!!
I need to find that kind of wine.
Yeah, that would be great.

Ummmm, what kind of wine does she actually LIKE? That would likely make all the difference, since the world-class Washington state wines come in a mind-boggling gaggle of varietals.

The best wine I've tasted from Washington State was the Darby Wineries Destiny Ridge Syrah. Very smooth, easy to drink, and delicious.
But for an educational experience, get your butt down to the Red House on Burnett in Renton. They are a combination wine shop and restaurant, and have a huge selection of wine and people who are very friendly and helpful. Plus they have amazing food.

I have a fondness for the Walla Walla Vintners - lots of great red wines - always consistently yummy. The possibilities are endless for WA wine though...

Chateau Ste Michelle Reisling!!! Sweet, but not too sweet, crisp and fruity white wine...You may want a couple bottles!

The Hogue Genesis series is reliably good. Does she like a red or white, since you say not too dry I'm guessing something like the reisling suggested by poogie?
There are *a lot* of good choices at your local Trader Joe's, for example, they probably have something I've never heard of that's great.
You can frequently find extremely good wines for less than $20/bottle, BTW. Woodward Canyon is another brand, along with Kestrel, that make some really excellent wine.

I can't recommend specific wines because I don't know jack about wine. But since there are fifty wineries within fifty miles of my house over here in the Dry Cities, I do know what kinds of wine from here seem to be best received: syrahs, muscats, gewurtztraminers. I especially like the gewurtz and I think your wife would too.
Appelations from our region include Yakima Valley, Horse Heaven Hills, Red Mountain, Rattlesnake Hills, some Columbia Valley brands and Wahluke Slope. Locally, I like Bookwalter, Seth Ryan, Ecole #41 among others.

I like the Merryhill wines and Gordon Brothers wines. Both may be kind of hard to locate in retail outlets, depending on where you look.

If white, but not a reisling, I would second the gewurtz!
