Thank you, Greensleeves. Isn't that interesting! After almost a quarter-century living here, I guess no one here uses that phrase.

This is another fun toy:

Sequim is a 'blue hole.' However, even though it doesn't rain here much (15-17"/yr.), the blue hole is elusive: partly to mostly cloudy conditions dominate. Sequim and the Dungeness Valley lie in the rain shadow of the Olympic mountains. It is the driest area in western Washington state.

I have heard that pilots on occasion see a blue hole in the clouds near Sequim. I haven't heard many folks on the ground talking about seeing one.

I guess I should have worded my question differently, I meant something on the east side...LOL I'm aware of the Sequim area but I was looking at places on east of Whidbey ect.

Well, as you can see from the rainfall links we provided for you, there is basically no rain shadow on the mainland.
The rain shadow includes Sequim -- and to a lesser extent Port Angeles and Port Townsend on the Olympic Peninsula, parts of central Whidbey Island, and sometimes parts of southern Fidalgo Island.
Between the Olympic Mountains on the west and the mainland on the east, the clouds cross over water and pick up enough moisture to provide rain before they have to drop the rain in order to rise and cross the Cascades. Isn't meteorology fun?! I never missed Harry Wappler because he loved rain; now I never miss Steve Pool because I have a nascent crush on him and I like the way he teaches about weather.
