Moving to Forks, WA
Hi all, I'll be migrating over to Forks most likely next year. Would like to get a rough estimation for house and car. So that i can save up enough before i go over. Thanks.

The FIRST, most important thing is: where will your job be? Outside of the tourist season, the work in Forks is pretty much service work (gas stations, fast food restaurants, supermarkets, etc.). First, figure out where in Washington state you can work; then look for ways to live near there.
Here are some City-Data threads that will give you really useful information. For rentals, you want to look up the Forks Forum.

good advise Allforcats. Don't expect to find a job as soon as you move here. OR a rental or a house to purchase for that matter...

Forks is ghetto. I don't know if you know that.
Other than that, what the others said...

Let's be clear --
If all you've ever known is the western states, where there aren't any ghettoes (except one in L.A.), then because Forks has no glitz one might think it's a "ghetto".
If you've known the ghettoes of New York, D.C., Chicago, the southern states, etc., Forks is the furthest thing from a "ghetto". It's just a very small, very simple town with almost no industry.

I have lived all over the country and just because a place is poor doesn't make it a ghetto. A real ghetto will have a lot of minorities, graffiti, crime, with prostitutes and drug dealers out on the streets. In a real ghetto, a non-minority would have trouble walking down the street without some comment and a very real possibility of getting hurt after dark. So, you might want to review your snotty and ignorant lost in translation comment for when you might have lived in more than one place in your life.
Also, I hope Forks is not on the list to move merely because of Twilight.

I know people who like in Forks, they love it. I think it's a nice small town. If you are someone who likes the weather, being outdoors, and a more simple way of life, Forks is great. It's close to some beautiful beaches, great fishing, hiking and beautiful rivers. I know that the land and homes are still affordable. The locals are super nice.
(I've been to ghettos and Forks is not!)
Port Angeles and Sequim are not that far away, where you can go to walmart, costco and home depot (if needed) -just make sure to ask your neighbors if they need anything!!!
Why did you chose Forks? family, job??

Hi, I am currently living in Toledo, Ohio and I am thinking of getting a divorce. I have two kids daughter is 5 and son is 1, my husband is in the US Coast Guard and I am thinking to let the kids stay with him until I can get settle in. I am thinking either Forks or Port Angeles, I need all the help anyone can give me in addition I have a Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice. I know little from both but Forks seems nice, is a hard decision but it is for the best. I'm originally from Puerto Rico, so I am bilingual and I'm 27. I don't want to go back home I want to stay here, so Forks or Port Angeles. I will apreciate any information that will help me..
Thanks,
Mily

Good morning Mily:
You'll have more job/housing/shopping etc. opportunities in PA than Forks. Forks is pretty small, quiet and out of the way (and most of the people who live there appreciate that!) but I think you'd really notice this coming from Toledo!
You know... just an idea for you... Given your degree and bilingual skills, have you ever considered a job with the US Border Patrol? The reason I ask is that the Border Patrol has significantly beefed up its "manpower" presence in the PA area over the past few years (Homeland Security Act and all) and I know they value bi-lingual people. They might be hiring for PA???
As you probably know there is a USCG station in PA (Ediz Hook) so there may be contacts for your family there as well. Also USCG at Neah Bay as well but that's really the "end of the earth" over there!
Good luck!
