What? Almost 24 hours since Edward posted and no mention of the amazing technicolor WA rain map yet? OK roughly, Forks gets 100+ inches of rain a year.
Rain you say Edward? Since western WA (including Forks) gets most of its rain in December and January (except this winter when the rain is tending to be of the frozen white variety...) I'd say now would be the perfect time to come visit Forks. Southwest Airlines has an air fare special running this week. You could buy a ticket from Phoenix to SeaTac, rent a car at the airport, drive over and check out Forks for yourself!

Uh....I wouldn't move to a small financially depressed town when expecting? We have less resources than Phoenix does to help you, let alone to employ you. I work with the homeless....we have an awful lot of folks without work in this area....
And seriously, we get nearly 12 FEET of rain a year....you can't just "like" the rain...you have to love it.

I just had to come on here and post! I too will admit that I have read Twilight (which was bought for my daughter but I zoomed through all 4 books before her lol) and I have been intrigued by Forks. I'm from NJ and while I don't think moving there would be my choice, visiting definitely would. I actually came on here because I was bored and thinking to myself "I wonder how many people have posted questions about Forks, WA now that Twilight is out." And here, I have found my answer lol. I've seen pictures of the Olympic Penninsula and it really does look absolutely beautiful. I'd love to visit, but I'm afraid I might really not want to leave!!
As for the person who said they've been there and have never seen a vampire walking around, remember, they're not your ordinary vampires, you need to look for someone who's not bearing his fangs, yet who "glitters" in the sun hahahaha!!!!!

Twilight is of course a work of fiction. I wonder how much time Ms. Meyer actually spent in Forks prior to writing her book (perhaps a fair bit? I don't know...)
We own two homes, one on the beach near PA and one in the high desert mountains above Boise. I was chatting with my dental hygienist in Boise recently as she was cleaning my teeth (easier said than done!) She knows that we live on the peninsula part time not far from Forks and mentioned that her teenage daughter absolutely loved the Twilight series and had read all of the books several times over.
My hygienist went on to relate how her daughter begged and begged for a visit to Forks, so that she could experience it as she imagined it from the books. Finally when her daughter said that a Forks venture was all that she wanted for her birthday, they decided to make a family trip of it late this summer. When they finally drove in and around town and her daughter saw the real Forks for the first time, she said her daughter was so disappointed and bemoaned "This is it...??? It's not at all what it's supposed to look like!"
Since the movie wasn't filmed in Forks, in the spirit of caveat emptor, perhaps we should add a photo section to this thread? Show Forks with all of its significant natural beauty but also its reality: tons of rain, muddy streets, scattered mobile homes, rusty buildings. I'll dig through my digital files later in the week and see what I've got. I know I have a pic somewhere of my daughter standing in front of Forks High School holding her Twilight book. Any takers?
Happy New Year everyone!

Kalama only is slightly better than Forks because you can leave Kalama easier.

I think you really have to like Forks for what it actually is, and not some romantic notion you might have about it. Forks is just a little town of about 3000 people in a rather remote corner of the Olympic peninsula that gets a tremendous amount of monsoonal mosture about 9 months of the year. Personally I like the peninsula and being outside in all types of weather. I've summited the three Mount Olympus peaks six times from various approaches (the bailey range, dodwell-rickson via the Elwha and the Queets and Glacier Meadows) and regularly go backpacking, hunting, fishing, x-country skiing, etc in the winter time. A couple of years ago, I hiked up the Elwha river to Happy shelter (about 30 miles one way) at Christmas time, it never did stop raining for the 7 days I was out, it just varied between 'drizzle' and 'firehose', and most of the time the latter. To me, its nicer in the off season because there are no other people out there.

So wise, and so well said! And isn't this true of absolutely everything in life? Truth rocks -- because when we know truth, we know what to choose that feels good to us
