You're neighbors with the Capitol and its beautifully maintained campus and you can walk around Capitol Lake, or the Percival Landing boardwalk. The community is well maintained and very safe. The neighborhood homes are mainly older homes (many historic) with lots of charm. Since its a city neighborhood, the yards tend to be small and the neighborhood streets are connected with sidewalks. I would recommend you check it out when you come to visit.

Oh, thank you for the recommendation! That sounds just like what I'm looking for. I'd like a single family home since I have a piano and I don't like to disturb anyone when I play, but I don't want or need a huge yard. I will definitely check it out next time I go to the Tacoma area and have time to get down to Olympia.

We just moved to the desert outside of Tucson after 30 years in Olympia. It's a wonderful, progressive, welcoming community.

If you do not live in a seriously rainy, wet, damp, cold area you may want to think about it before you head that way. Check out the sunshine/humidity ratings here on city-data before you decide. Cold, wet, rain can be very discouraging on some souls...it's not for everyone. I loved Olympia and for all I know may end up there back there but for now I am totally loving the sunshine here in Tucson.

There is always east of the mountains in both Oregon and Washington..where the sun shines!

Best wishes!

I live in Olympia now. Its not big with industry, mostly government and service industry, no large or tall buildings. Homes and land still reasonable. Taxes modest. Especially if you can live just outside city limits. You'd love the ocean side here. South end has sandy beaches, north end has rocky beaches. Visit the ocean during a wind storm. A great expereince. Heck, we can be snow skiing and in 3 hours, surfing on a beach. We have wet timberlands, dry deserts and everything in between.
