We live in semiahmoo and love it but my husband just got transferred to Florida so we are packing up. What you will miss if you are fomr CA is the sunshine. We actually chose Semiahmoo cause it gets 30% more sun the the surrounding areas due to a rain shadow. If you are seriously thinking of moving and are interested we have a home for rent on the golf course. You can check out he add at kjiji.com -just search Semiahmoo

Im in Tri Cities, and overall, it is a lovely state.

Wow!!!!
All of those pronounciations! You went above and beyond the call of duty to answer my question. Thanks so much. You saved me from mispronouncing a city or town and looking like a fool. (LOL). So many of them are Native American names and I wasn't sure how to pronounce some of them. I don't always know how to say something just from reading it, and I don't hear it said aloud.

Welcome to Washington, Tex. Go Huskies!
A lot of our Indian names aren't on there because the pronunciation is evident, such as Humptulips (if whites invented that name I hope the naming person got professional help) or Tonasket. And a lot of our non-Indian names are deliberately kind of butchered away from their phonetic pronunciation, like Coloradoans do with Spanish names and then try and pretend it isn't a bit of a political statement. But I reckon my deal was to let you know how they say it around those parts. Personally, I always call Yakima 'Crackima' anyway.

Thanks. I figured that was the correct way to pronounce it. But, wasn't exactly sure. Most Native American names are phonetically pronounced. Washington, Idaho, Texas and Oklahoma have many Native American names for their towns and cites. But, I mispronounced Minot, North Dakota. The people I was talking to didn't know what I was talking about at first. Minot is correctly pronounced Mi-nit. With a long i the 1st syllable and then a short i, the 2nd syllable. I pronounced it like a french word with the short i for the 1st syllable, then the long o and silent t for the 2nd syllable. (Mi-know). WRONG!!

More pronunciations on my website... http://www.stevensauke.com/say/northwest.html
By the way, the first syllable of Chehalis starts with a soft "sh" sound, not a hard "ch".

I was borne here, moved to the midwest as a child. Came back, after some time in the Army, with the intention of just visiting, then going up to Anchorage. The wife said she wasn't going to live in an igloo and wouldn't go any farther.....I've been here since 93. I love the mountains and coast, just hate that it is so crouded.

That's a really good list. I'm feeling kind of happy I only got one slightly wrong, and only in a region where I never lived.
If you want help with more Alaskan ones, my wife is from there and two of her siblings still live there.
