WW= Green where irrigated, brown in winter, dry, flat, hot summers, gray winters, farming based econ, migrant population, University+jr College, State Prison, conservative, nice downtown, a few areas not so nice. Tax free shopping in Milton-Freewater, OR. 2 hrs to Spokane, 4 hrs to Portland, 6+ hrs to Seattle.

LV= Green, (Mossy) wet, hilly, cooler summers, grayer winters + drizzle (no / little snow), logging based econ, significant meth issue, Jr College, Port, more liberal (Close to OR + west side of left coast), pretty distressed downtown area, plenty of not so nice areas, and a few nice areas. 1 hr to coast, mountains, Portland. 2 hrs to Seattle

I vote Walla Walla (for my tastes)

I also vote Walla Walla. Even though it is in eastern Washington, the winters are fairly mild there and they get the least amount of snow anywhere east of the Cascades. It does get quite hot in the summer while Longview is cooler. Walla Walla has a nice downtown with lots of well preserved older buildings. The quality of life seems a bit better there to me, slower pace of life and fewer social problems. The down side is it is far from any large cities and a bit isolated, while Portland isn't far at all from Longview and even Seattle isn't too far for an easy day trip.

When I was younger I used to think Longview was the better place to live cause of the trees and it had a nice city park in the middle of town and it is close to the Cascades and the Forests, I was never aware of the meth issues the area was having at all.

FlintRocks is on a distinguished road
Meth isn't any more of an issue in Longview than it is elsewhere now.

The two cities are so very different it's tough to make a call on which is better for someone you don't know at all. Both are very nice towns. And also can be considered crappy towns. Depends on how you look at them.
