Question Tell Me About Tenino

Is Tenino mostly rural? Is it in the flood plain area for nearby rivers?

I'm considering whether the area is far enough outside Olympia's urban growth boundary to keep acreage and homestead for the long term.

I've also read on another forum that Thurston County has LOTS of restrictive regulations for property owners. Is this generally true for just this county, or is it a statewide thing?

Any input and advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Stonecypher,

If you live right by the rivers you are in a flood plain. The big flood of 2007 just barely affected Tenino. It was mostly in Chehalis and Centralia. Tenino is definitely outside Olympia's urban growth boundary.
The restrictive regulations in Thurston County are mostly in place to preserve large lots and inhibit sprawl. If owning acreage and keeping a homestead is your goal, you'll do well in the rural areas, such as Tenino, Rochester or Maytown. They're close enough to Olympia for all the amenities, but still retain their rural feel.

Sandy
