Default Wenatchee...continued.

We are leaving Wenatchee this week to look for a home in Arizona!!

But this will always be a very special spot in our lives and we will hang on to the property we own outside of town.

Appreciate your comments about North Central Regional Library system. This will be one of the tougher things about leaving Wenatchee. It is a great system....but in past years the service was even better!!!

I get the impression I am going to be disappointed in the libraries in Arizona.

Where in Arizona are you relocating to? I'm from Yavapai County (the Prescott area) but having lived there for 30+ years am familiar with many areas of the state... I love AZ and wish you the best of luck!
Regarding libraries... There are definitely some beautiful and well-funded libraries... they aren't going to ship anything to your home, however (at least in Yavapai County), there's no "honor system" and fines can be heavy, especially for material borrowed from outside your neighborhood branch. I once was pulled over for going over the speed limit and was reminded by the officer that my books were three days late! I don't know if they've done away with that or not, however...

Wenatchee is a very nice place, although getting busier and more crowded than it use to be. Much is said about the hispanic population in the schools but in my experience this hasn't hindered my children's learning at all and is a non-factor as far as I am concerned.

Tons and tons of outdoor recreation opportunities. Anyone who says there is nothing to do isn't looking hard enough. The location is perfect with Lake Chelan to the north, the Columbia River flowing through town, the mountains are minutes away to the west, and dry scablands are minutes away to the east.

Pictues of Wenatchee and the whole North Central Washington area can be found here.

As a former resident of Washington - Tacoma, Seattle and Clarkston - and 12 years in Calfornia and 12 years in Arizona - you are lucky that the local hispanic population isn't a problem - yet. In the larger cities in Arizona - you are risking your life to go out anytime and especially at night or evening. Things are getting better though and hopefully Arizona will again be the place we loved.

We've been chased at least 5 times while out jogging on a high school track - 6 men rushed at us out of the early morning darkness - if we hadnt been in good shape - we wouldnt be here today. Some of the other times we had to run into a school to get 5 or 6 apparent gang members off our tails. My wife got trapped in a Mexican Gang war in Albuquerque as she went down central avenue to our RV park on the west mesa. Cars were stopped for 3 hours as several mexicans shot at another car of mexicans and police went from car to car to car - looking for the gunmen. My wife was crying and the car was overheating when she got home. We knew we were leaving as soon as we could on that day. The shopping malls are loaded with Aliens - if they think you are looking at them - be prepared for a confrontation - maybe a stabbing. In San Diego in the biggest park (don't remember the name) a mexican broke into a senior citizen's motor home and when they came back he was threatening them with a knife. A younger man came to their aid and he is dead now - dead - forever.

In albuquerque - we had to quit our permanent gold's gym membership because of the large number of mexicans (dont' know if they were illegals or not) that were there and very hostile to all non mexicans and there were a lot of fights there too between the mexicans.

In phoenix we went to a favorite pizza parlour (peter piper) in Mesa and walked in on a 40 person mexican birthday party. As is often the case - they were getting very drunk. There were about 15 of regulars and a peaceful family of blacks which the mexicans were trying to antagonize into a fight - we felt very sorry for the blacks. Just as it began to boil the police showed and with a little resistance - moved the mexicans out - we had felt trapped in there and just wanted to keep a low profile but we got out okay as did the very relieved black family.

We're older now and Arizona won't correct it's problems in time for us to move back but we are going to Oklahoma - my home state and a state taking serious action to beat the problem before it gets out of control.

I imagine Prescott and Payson might have some peaceful living left but certainly not the big 4 - Phoenix, Tucson, Yuma and Flagstaff.

This really is an invasion down there. I shudder when I see a "diversity" council in Wenatchee - encouraging you to arrive at Arizona and California conditions much sooner. Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas have seen the handwriting on the wall and are doing something to stop it - other states are too. is Washington going to be another Arizona or California?

Do a lot of scouting before you go to Arizona or California.

Best wishes anyway - hold on to your wenatchee property.

Default Wenatchee is awesome.

I've lived in some of the most excellent places. Wenachee is the best. It has some of the best scenery looking to the West that can be achieved. It sets at 700 or so feet with 9000 ft mountains 40 miles away, imagine the vale of cashmere, spectacular. Dry in the summer but can have 40 inches of snow in the winter. Yet from may thru october it is reguarly 85 to 105 and 55 to 75 overnight. This place is a singularity that defies description.

The coulmbia river disects the valley so water sports abound, a ski resort sits above the city ony 20 miles away. You can golf and ski or boat all in the same day. Wenatchee is that good.

The only drag for me would be the cost of housing. I did a little glancing around earlier this year and I was astonished how much it costs to buy a house in Wenatchee. To me, the range for a town of that size should be $120-240K, and what I saw was routine $300K. I guess you'd have to really love Wenatchee to pay what people are asking.
