Default South Spanaway

Looks like my wife and I are going to be relocating up to the South Spanaway area. Is this also a bad area or are the bad areas of Spanaway vary from neighborhood to neighborhood? We looked at our house and it seemed to be in a good area and is in a newer gated community. Any imput would be greatly appreciated.

Just like anywhere else, good and bad neighborhoods, and different perspectives by the people providing input.

Good neighborhoods usually have 90% or greater owner occupied homes, but sometimes even that's not a fair indicator.

Depends also on proximity to major thoroughfares, average costs of homes, length of time of ownership, etc; basically all the demographic influences you should consider before moving in.

Pacific Avenue. Possibly on the side where Spanaway park is. If you live across the street near Golden Given back that way going near Puyallup, you could find some nice housing communities. The Realtors will tell you to drive down Golden Givens to get there....Just so you will not look at Pacific Avenue Before you buy.

This would be from 121st and Pacific avenue - 176th and Pacific Avenue area, maybe farther. There's Parkland then further down it turns into Spanaway. My family still lives in that hellhole - hate staying there when I visit.

My husband grew up in that area, his family has lived there for 40 years and has nothing good to say about it. We just moved his mom out this weekend. Lots of crime and break-ins (brother-in-law had someone come into the house and steal his xbox while he was in the bathroom). Maybe if you stayed nearer to Canyon Drive/Fredrickson, but the closer you get to Hwy 7, the worse it gets. If you do buy in that area, just make sure you don't have the nicest house in the neighborhood.

Spanaway is unincorporated, so there is no local police force and the Pierce County sheriff is overwhelmed.

Also if you hear fireworks, more than likely it's gun shots.
