Default Moving to Everett, WA

I will be moving to Everett, WA in the next 6 months. My husband and I have no children yet. But we would like any information that we can get on the city of Everett as far as housing, shopping, weather, crime rates, and if there are good schools in the area for future children. We are both worried about finding jobs in the area quickly once we move there. I work in IT with servers and my husband is in social work with foster care. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The Everett area is very diverse when it comes to housing, shopping, crime, and believe or not weather too (we have many micro climates due to water and mountains and south Snohomish County is home to the convergence zone). Do you have a price range of home you can afford? That may be a good starting point. Right now the Mill Creek area is probably the best, most affordable area the meets most of your criterea. It has good schools, good selection of housing stock, and is right in the middle of things in Snohomish County. The shopping hub of the area is Lynnwood.

Hi there, if you are looking for good schools, look in the surrounding areas around Everett.

Working for Snohomish County would be a good job for an IT person. www.co.snohomish.wa.us. I worked there for a short time at the courthouse.

I'm a little partial to Lake Stevens as that is where I grew up and currently live until two weeks from now. We are moving to the Vancouver, WA area.

Anyway, Lake Stevens schools has one of the best reputations in Snohomish County, but it is getting quite crowded and the traffic here is horrible. It just depends on what your preferences are and what you're willing to put up with.

Arlington has a hard time passing levys and getting support from the community to fund the schools. Marysville isn't that great, either.

If you have any more direct questions, please feel free to ask!

Renee'

I lived in Everett for about one year, and I would say that it is one of the worst places to live in Washington state. There are so many registered and unregistered sex offenders here, the crime rate is very high (never leave anything in your car. If you have a stereo or CD-player in your car, simply take it out. Put extra locks on your car in addition to an alarm system, etc.). Most people are gangster looking type (or maybe they are.) Drug houses (meth) are everywhere. I am so glad that I moved to somewhere else. I would never recommend a friend to live in this city.
Hope this helps!

I'd second the suggestion of looking at Lake Stevens. The traffic is tough, but it's tough everywhere in the metro area of Seattle. I lived in Lake Stevens for two years and enjoyed it a lot. If you can afford to live on the lake, go for it. Lot's of fun water activities - fishing, water skiing, jet ski's, etc.
