The Islands (Vashon, Anderson, Mercer, or Herron) (Seattle, Tacoma: real estate, 2009)

So I've read many of the posts about the different islands on here..and I think I have an ok picture of each...am I close?

Mercer-expensive real estate/upscale island/competitive schools

Vashon-quiet/more afordable/family friendly/more rural

Anderson-same as Vashon

Herron-private island/small community/heavy HOA fee's

Is there something that would set Anderson apart from Vashon?

We are looking for quiet/small/safe/friendly/affordable (<200k) island community.

Vashon is a very quick commute to downtown Seattle...Anderson Island is closer to Tacoma and far less expensive than Vashon...Vashon and Anderson both require ferries to get there, where Mercer Island is a bridge...It's unlikely you'll find a house on Vashon for under 200k, and more possible on Anderson.

Be sure and check on the power supply problems that Anderson is dealing with currently. Just do a Google search for the latest news about Anderson Island and power outages. Energy for the whole island is now being supplied by generators due to an outage of the main power cable. There were several tv news stories about the problem recently. It sounds like it may be months before the cable is replaced.

I'm not sure if you listed only four islands because you didn't know of any more, or if they were the only four you are considering. There are almost fifty islands in Washington State that are inhabited.
