Default Working in Sumner - Places to Live

Sorry if this has been repeated...I will be working in Sumner & was looking for decent/safe places to rent an apartment, but something that is closeby to shopping, bars, restaurants, etc. So, far...what has been suggested to me is North Tacoma (Stadium or Proctor District). It looks like the Stadium District may be a shorter commute, but I know there are probably good & bad areas here.

Can anyone give me specific areas, like zip codes or street boundaries of a good area? Also, any other good nearby recommendations & specific areas to live would be appreciated. Thanks!

98402 is Downtown Tacoma which includes some of the Stadium District. There are a lot of nice apartments in downtown to choose from. Price ranges vary greatly. There are affordable older buildings, newer buildings and historic rehab buildings are usually more. Downtown has low crime and you will find the most bars and restaurants. If looking for an apartment look for Theater District, St. Helens Neighborhood/District, Stadium District, UWT, and Thea Foss Waterway.

98403 is Stadium District, North Slope Historic District, and Old Town. There are lots of old apartments and condo conversions to rent. In Stadium District you will find a grocery store, banks, and some shops. There aren't many restauarants and bars there. Most of them are south of the Stadium District in St. Helens and the rest of Downtown but an easy walk.

98405 has some decent areas around Wright Park (one of the nicest parks in Tacoma) and to the south around South 21st and Yakima Ave.. Around 21st and Yakima is mostly mid to higher end townhome condos but there are usually some for rent. It is right above UWT and there are many shops and restaurants down there.

98406 and 98407 are for the most part good places. They are North Tacoma and the West End. Proctor District doesn't have too many apartment buildings so it may be difficult to find one around there. Proctor caters to a more older/family crowd, where downtown and Stadium is more of a younger/single crowd. Stay away from the apartments near 6th and Pearl Street. In general stay away from larger suburb style (2-3 story with parking lots) apartment complexes unless they are condo conversions renting out units.
