Ok folks, what am I missing? I don't get why the crime stats shown here on City-Data show Gig Harbor with high crime when it's been described numerous times as having very low crime? The red "bars" (for Gig Harbor) are above the orange bars (for US average)...so why is this? I've gone in to look at other various towns known for either high or low crime and crime info seems to be correct, so this is an error or not? Thanks for any help on this!

Pierce County Neighborhood Crime

02/08 -01/09 there were only 1,259 crimes total in the city. That seems pretty low. There are neighborhoods in cities that have more crime than that in a year.

I think that the City-data stats are probably taking into account the Key Peninsula area, but even then I'd say that the numbers may not be accurate. I'd check with the Gig Harbor PD and Pierce County Sherriffs. There are some higher than normal theft rates due to the number of highly affluent areas, but it's minor still.

That sounds high to me also, I'm guessing there lumping the Key Peninsula data in with it. Just my opinion though.
