Wow oilcity55, Forks really does sound like a depressing town. If only people would spend a few minutes doing a little research online, they might save themselves from years of unhappiness living in a place that doesn't suit them.

I love it that people seem to think that Forks is the only isolated small town nestled among the trees that exists in the lower 48 'States...

Crime? lately there was a string of robberies. Person(s) were eventually caught - local kids that most knew they were the ones doing it - the police just had to prove it. A murder at the ugly trailer park - boyfriend killed girlfriend in front of their 4 year old daughter. Too many dui's and drug charges to tell. Yes Forks may be small but all crime happens here too.

I don't mean this in a negative way as I love the Peninsula but since you're coming from Virginia this might have a some meaning for you. If you're moving to Forks, it's almost like you're moving to Appalachia. Small out of the way town, no curbs or street lights in most of the town. In fact, several of the streets there aren't even paved at all; which means they're a muddy mess most of the year.

Small, simple houses (which includes rusted mobile homes). Basic, very blue collar economy that revolves around logging. If you've never seen "clear cut" forest, this will take on new meaning for you.

Crime? Nah, most of the locals are pretty well armed...

Kailani didn't mention that in Forks you can shop at Walmart too, you just have to drive 70 miles to get to it!

Sealove, please do yourself a big favor and go spend a few weeks there (this time of year is optimum- so you can get the best feel for the mud, rain and gray weather) before you pull the trigger on a move.

If it helps, I did see the Twilight movie. I didn't recognize anything from the area in the movie. The high school, housing, town- everything- was not Forks. I did wonder if the beach scene was from Ruby Beach or Beach 4 but that was about it. Even the up in the trees scene was from somewhere on the Columbia Gorge.

Caveat emptor

Best of luck!

I would just like to thank yous guys for all that information and for Sealove posting the questions apart from fashion not what I would need to know lol, I am so determind to move there I have actually been to forks one year with my father for a fishing trip (I live in Scotland by the way). I must say the scenery and lakes are beautiful its just my perfect definition of paradise, quiet, isolated and peaceful. Its the perfect place to bring up children and not worry about rape, murder or anything along those lines If I could get a sponser to take me on I would move instantly without hesitation

It burned down in late October 2012. The building structure crumbled into the street.

The fishing has been in a little bit of a rut this year. The summer was really dry so the rivers were very low and water was quite clear--tough conditions.
As for being a good place for kids, I'd have to say it can be if you are involved with them. The area had a bit of a crime spree over this past year. They had a murder (domestic violence) and a whole bunch of burglaries/vehicle prowls. One of the kids caught doing some of it was only 14 and had about 7 grams of meth and a stolen handgun on him (if I remember the story correctly).
Overall, I think it is a pretty great place though it can get a little dreary at times (and I'm not referring to the weather).
