Moving to Forks, Washington--need some help.
Well, I understand that Forks, Washington is becoming popular because of the Twilight book series. To be honest, that is how Forks came to my attention. I decided to research on it, but I didn't get very far. Please note that I am not going there hoping to see a vampire, or anything like that. I love small towns, and Forks seems suitable. I stumbled upon this site, and I saw some threads on the the topic I needed. So, I am hoping that some of you guys who live in the Forks area, could help me and answer some of my questions....
1. What are the typical jobs and how much to they usually pay?
2. Are the houses expensive?
3. Are the people nice?
4. Is there alot of crime?
5. How about fashion?
I live in Virginia (the northern area) and moving across the US is going to be a huge climate change, im sure.
So any people who can help me?

1. What are the typical jobs and how much to they usually pay?
Unless you have some in-demand skill, you will be lucky to hustle a minimum wage job
2. Are the houses expensive?
No, not compared to many other more desirable areas in Washington and the rest of the country.
3. Are the people nice?
Yes they are. The same as everywhere else, if you are nice, people will be nice to you.
4. Is there alot of crime?
No, very little, especially compared to Seattle or Tacoma.
5. How about fashion?
Flannel shirts and jeans have always been in fashion in Forks.

If you can afford the expense, I'd definitely check out the town in person before you move there. It's quite an isolated place, with either wilderness or clearcut and partially thinned forest in every direction for a long ways. Logging is the biggest employer around. I haven't seen the movie Twilight, but from clips I have seen of the movie it doesn't really look the same as Forks. I think it was filmed somewhere in Canada. It will be quite a change from northern Virginia. Good luck.

FASHION??? Why is this question in your top 5 of things to know about a place?
Perhaps you should have asked, How's the weather??
If you are comfortable in a hoodie, a lot of times a rain jacket, blue jeans and all purpose shoes, then you'll be fine. If your the type who likes heels, skirts and a blouse then I don't think so, unless you're a school teacher or office worker.
The majority of the year you will be dealing with RAIN, summers are great, you CAN wear flip flops and shorts.
Theres not a lot of reason to get all dressed up out here. You can just about wear whatever you want to any of the restaurants here.
We have a lot of beautiful trails and forests (which one who wants to move here should have interest in) would be wearing jeans and a zip-up, as it can get cold under the canopy most of the year.
There's a Gottschalks in downtown Port Angeles, if you need more fashionable clothing, they also have a makeup counter, but you better hurry, I hear they're shutting down!!!
Wal-Mart suits us locals here!

Sealove:
We live in Port Angeles and like the others who have respond to your question, have spent a fair bit of time in Forks over the years.
I don't mean this in a negative way as I love the Peninsula but since you're coming from Virginia this might have a some meaning for you. If you're moving to Forks, it's almost like you're moving to Appalachia. Small out of the way town, no curbs or street lights in most of the town. In fact, several of the streets there aren't even paved at all; which means they're a muddy mess most of the year.
Small, simple houses (which includes rusted mobile homes). Basic, very blue collar economy that revolves around logging. If you've never seen "clear cut" forest, this will take on new meaning for you.
Crime? Nah, most of the locals are pretty well armed...
Kailani didn't mention that in Forks you can shop at Walmart too, you just have to drive 70 miles to get to it!
Sealove, please do yourself a big favor and go spend a few weeks there (this time of year is optimum- so you can get the best feel for the mud, rain and gray weather) before you pull the trigger on a move.
If it helps, I did see the Twilight movie. I didn't recognize anything from the area in the movie. The high school, housing, town- everything- was not Forks. I did wonder if the beach scene was from Ruby Beach or Beach 4 but that was about it. Even the up in the trees scene was from somewhere on the Columbia Gorge.
Caveat emptor
Best of luck!

That's if you go North to Port Angeles.
If you go South to Aberdeen, it's a little longer drive, but there's not only a Walmart there, there's also a Sears and a Penny's.
Many Peninsula women drive all the way to Olympia and shop at Cabela's, or Lane Bryant.
So, we may smell moldy and have sawdust in our hair, but our women are stylin' hotties.

And don't forget there's always the clothing section at the Thriftway for the day-to-day necessities!

Yep, it was. My wife took me to see the movie, and I recognized a lot of scenes from the Columbia River Gorge. I saw the Multnomah Falls footbridge in one scene. So if you like what you saw in the movie, maybe you should check out northern Oregon, too! I do think a good deal of the movie was filmed there.
