Anyone who traveled on highway 2 between Stevens Pass and Wenatchee probably remembers a small candy store just west of Leavenworth located in Tumwater Canyon, called "The Alps". Most of the candy and other treats were made there on site and were absolutely delicious. To those from out of the area it was a great stop to break up the trip over the Cascade Mountains and to locals it was a real treat either to visit themselves or to show off to relatives and friends coming to the region.
I'm speaking of this local treasure in the past tense because as some of you may have heard there was a fire there this past Friday, and though the owner has stated that he plans to rebuild, for now "The Alps" is gone.
