Default Tacoma area - Please help for a Relo

I have been offered a job in the Tacoma area and am reading many reviews (which is both reassuring and disappointing) to decide whether to move. We currently live in western PA, so we do understand that at least the housing is far more expensive.

We are interested in finding a home in the suburbs (30-45 minute drive to Tacoma). Reasonable housing we have seen seems to be Puyallup and Spanaway. Are there other similar areas, and are these areas safe with good school districts, which is important.

I'd appreciate any information, as this would be a good career move and significant pay increase, but we're apprehensive about all of the 'cost of living' talk.

Thanks,
Weightyghost

Weightyghost,

Check out the towns of Dupont, Lacey and Gig Harbor. Hopefully you'll be able to find a nice affordable home with good schools.

Sandy

Steilacoom is very nice, but probably somewhat expensive. Also, depending on your budget, many areas of north Tacoma are VERY nice. I live around N 26th and N Alder. Very beautiful, turn of the century architecture.
