Much of the year you would want a wet suit for warmth. Also a good knowledge of how to deal with riptides.

No idea about those. I know nothing about surfing beyond the fact that you do it in the water. But I have been in the water somewhat out there, at various seasons, so I know it's pretty cold and can be dangerous for those not well prepared for some nasty rips.

I was just coming in to tell you I'd seen a bunch of surfers at Westport when we were there. They climbed down over the breakwater to launch themselves. All wearing full wetsuits although it was September and technically still summer.
I see that Ira has posted you a link proclaiming Westport as the surfing mecca of the PNW. So that's good to know.
It was a really foggy day too but I was really stoked to see them because surfing here at home is a similar deal around Bells, although not so much with the wetsuits in the summer. (sometimes though)
I really wish we'd had more time so I could have maybe gone out or at least spent a bit more time watching them.
There were a couple of other beaches we stopped at along our roadtrip where I wished I'd had a board BUT I figure if there was no one out surfing it was probably a good indication it wasn't a good spot for whatever reason.
There sure are some beautiful, beautiful beaches along that coast though!

I must of just missed you!
They where surfing at the very northern part of town, just inside Grays Harbor.

Yeah! I'm still dirty with you for not waking me up that morning!
AND I'm real cranky with myself for not realizing there would be an opportunity to surf while we were there!
STILL I'm really glad you got the pics MM. Brilliant as usual!

Darbley if you end up going surfing in WA can you come back and tell us how you went please? I'm really interested to hear about surfing in Washington. It's a beautiful place and it looks like the surfing would be pretty amazing!
