Marlisk,
My sister-in-law and family live in Walla Walla and they have been a great help in getting us info. They are homeschooling their kiddos, but she has talked with lots of other parents who LOVE Prospect Point elementary. She has said the locals say to steer clear of Blue Ridge but I'm not sure why. I've also read that advice on this forum but no one ever goes into any more detail. We will probably be in the area mid to end of June so we'll be doing more research once we arrive. We will stay with family for a week or so while we look for rentals in the Prospect Point neighborhoods. I've been told that school of choice is an option but that if they are full AFTER school starts they can kick the kids out and move them to another school. Not my idea of fun for the kids especially after a big move. Hope this info helps and good luck with your move!

Just posted something but didn't show up so here it is again in short. I have lived in WW most of my life and Blue ridge is less desirable because it is in an older low income neighborhood. Prospect point is usually the more desirable school because it is in the best neighborhood and there are more newer homes around it. All in all our schoold system gets great community support and is a pretty decent school district.

Walla Walla is beautiful!
My husband and I are driving home from Sokane, Washington as we were on vacation and spent the night in Walla Walla...... My goodness but I was impressed. It is typical 'small town America' where people are friendly and the houses remind me of the 1940's..... I would love to go back there just to stay and relax! Both my husband and I agreed that this town could be our dreamed about "Mayberry"! We live in busy southern California and have dreamed about living in a small, quaint town. This place sure fit our idea!! Anyone moving there is indeed LUCKY!

We made the big move in July from MI to Walla Walla and so far we love it. The girls have started school at Prospect Point and they seem to really enjoy the school and their teachers. It seems this will be a great place to settle down and raise our children. The folks here have been friendly....just seems harder to make friends here than it was in the midwest. We've only been here 6 weeks so I'm sure I'll start meeting other moms soon. We were able to find a fabulous house to rent and the neighbors are great. All in all I'm glad we made the move and we are looking forward to our new life here in Walla Walla

Hello, I am a 21 year old man considering moving to a small city where I can find an unskilled job. There also should be plenty of young people interested in the same sort of things as I am, such as organic agriculture, outdoor activities, and environmental activism. Would you say that this describes Walla Walla, with the college and all?

Hmmm...maybe without the "activism" part. WW is pretty conservative, and many look askance at environmental activists as it can often affect jobs in the area.
Now, frame it as "environmental custodianship" and you may have a little more luck...

I think the secret word on that issue is 'dam breaching'. That has been pretty contentious over in Tri-Cities and it would surprise me if it didn't inspire significant reactions in Wally as well.

Oh, no doubt...strong reaction.
Contentious throughout the Columbia Basin for over 10 years now...

How conservative is Walla Walla? We are escaping E. New Mexico because of the conservative majority. We're wanting to move into a more liberal community, hopefully more balanced.
Important to me: How many (approx) snow days does Walla Walla have?
Thanks for the comments!
