Hi! My family is moving to the Puget Sound area in a few weeks and I'm trying to find some nice areas to live. I'll be working in Oak Harbor, so I think the best area will be a little north of Everett, possibly in Marysville, but I know nothing about Marysville. Any suggestions? I'm keeping my home in NC and I need to rent an apartment/condo/house for $750-$800/mo until my wife finds a job.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

This is the city's home page. Sorry I can't help more with that area. It might help to get ahold of a realtor in the area just to get some neighborhood/commmunity info

NC2WA,

It depends on how far you want to drive and how close you want to be to Seattle/Everett. Getting to Oak Harbor from Marysville is definately not the most direct route. I believe it's over an hour from Maryville to Oak Harbor? (Correct me if I'm wrong). You would be better off, in my opinion, living near Mukilteo, Edmonds or Lynnwood. You would be able to catch the Clinton ferry from Mukilteo and head north to Oak Harbor. From the north, Anacortes is a nice area, and much closer. About the price range, the farther north the better. Other cities are Mount Vernon/Burlington, Stanwood, Arlington, you name it.

Good Luck.

Hi,

If I was you folks, I would contact the police department and talk to them. We have done the same in cases and they have been very helpful informing us of the areas local problem places or any possible issues. Also another place is to contact any Reality Agent for the town. These are great ways to get the info you want faster and honest.

Hi there, I lived in Oak Harbor for awhile in the 90's. My family lives just south of Marysville and it took us 1 hour 15 minutes to get there. So I would say that Marysville is about 1 hour away. A lot of people who work in Oak Harbor live in the Anacortes, Mount Vernon area. Mt. Vernon is in Skagit County.

I loved Oak Harbor. It's beautiful there! As it is on an island be prepared to get used to the wind! A lot of people who spend time there in their military career eventually go back to retire.

Mount Vernon and Sedro Woolley are nice. Worlds apart from Everett and Marysville. I don't think you could find a place in your price range in Anacortes, but it's only a few miles from Oak Harbor; a nice short commute if you're willing to pay for it.
