Default Possibly relocating to the Olympia/Chehalis area and could use some advice/information.....

We may possibly be relocating to this area in a couple of months. I would love any information on decent areas for raising children. We have a 10 year old and a 2 year old. I have read that all of Olympia's schools are superb. I would also be looking for a Community College to finish my degree in Diagnostic Ultrasound. Is Olympia the place for us? My husband would be working in/near Chehalis. Is the commute doable from Olympia? I am guessing there isn't much in or around Chehalis... Thanks for any advice you might have.

Yes, Chehalis is commutable from Olympia. I have a neighbor who does it daily. I think it is about 30 minutes with minimal traffic. There is a community college in Centralia/Chehalis and SPSCC is in Olympia. There are also community colleges in Tacoma (about 30 miles N. of Olympia): TCC, Pierce College- Ft. Steilacom, Bates and Clover Park Technical college. Not sure which school has a Diagnostic Ultrasound program, but there is a list to further look into. Tacoma is about 30 miles from Olympia. Good luck!

Tina,
The commute from Olympia to Chehalis is definitely doable. I have a client who bought a home in Tumwater and works in Chehalis. Her commute is less than 30 minutes. As Prple pointed out, there are several of community colleges within driving distance.

Sandy

Both of my kids (ages 6 and 10) attend the Chehalis School District and love it. I think the schools and teachers are great. We have had no issues at all!

...And both downtown Chehalis and downtown Centralia have genuine old fashioned charm, and they both have good restaurants.

You can check the numbers and statistics of the various towns on the city-data website. This will give you hard data, not just opinions.
