Default Honest opinions of Whatcom county schools needed

My husband and I are having difficulty choosing a community in Whatcom County. Long story short, it needs to be in either Blaine, Ferndale or Lynden school district. I'd welcome some honest opinions of any or all of these districts, in terms of quality but also the character of the student body in general. We've had some bullying problems this year at our current school and I'd like to not deal with that in the future if it can be avoided. Our oldest would be in 4th grade. I'm open to the possibility of homeschooling if it came to that. Anybody?

My son goes to Sunnyland in Bellingham and we both just love it. He came from a school in Phoenix that was not so good. This school out here is really great, nice teachers and it really makes me feel good that he is safe and doing well in his school.

I know folks that moved from SW WA to Lynden to utilize their schools (They moved back after kids were off to college). It was quite an effort, but they claim it was worth it for the good school choices.

I could use some advice in this area too. I live in north Texas and want to move to Wasington state for several reasons.

1. our electric bill is 700 -900 a month in the summer and 300-400 in the winter.

2. Its so hot and ugly in Texas and we want to live in the beautiful mountains of Washington

3. We have a son who will be 13 in September and he needs a good school
4. Property taxes are outrageous as well

So, anyone have any suggestions? we were thinking about Maple Falls since the area has homes that are more affordable. Comming from Texas where the proprty values are so low is having a major impact on the type home we can afford to buy.

Please feel free to offer your input

thanks
charlee

Charlee, I suggest you look into renting. Maple Falls is quite a drive from Bellingham. There is also a high number of sex offenders in that area from my understanding. Craigslist for Bellingham is a great resource for finding a rental. It will also give you the names of some of the property managers in the area and most of them have websites.

thanks for that info. Ewww sex offenders, I dont like that. My hubby is disabled with diabetic neuropathy so we dont have to work and we need an area where the homes are more reasonable. Comming from Texas where the houses are so much cheaper, it is gonna be hard to find a house we can afford. I was hoping to sell our home here and use the money to just pay cash for whatever we get since our income has been reduced drastically.

Yes craigslist is wonderful, ive sold several things on there which saved our behinds when we needed extra money.

thanks again
