What is the closest sandy ocean beach to Federal way?
No little round rocks, or inland stuff, a regular ocean beach with smooth sand, and what town is near it? Your help is appreciated.

Not ocean, but Dash Point State Park is sandy. And guess what? It's in Federal Way!

Then you want Ocean Shores, Westport and points around there. On the southwestern coast of the Olympic Peninsula. Check a map and you'll see the towns on the ocean there. The beaches are sandy and the view looking west is infinite.

All you will find at Ocean Shores is a flat hard beach with cars full of tourists driving back and forth wondering why they came.
But if you drive up the road a ways to Pacific Beach or Moclips, the beach and the ocean are much nicer and more scenic.
But don't try to go past Tahola or the Indians will arrest you, send you back to their casino at Ocean Shores, and take all your money.

Malibu Beach, California.
OK, that is my sarcastic answer, but in truth you can find some very nice sandy beaches on the Oregon Coast. However, weather in unpredictable. It can be very cool even in July an August.

And don't even think about getting in the water here in the NW, the water is FREEZING even in Aug with 90 degree weather! I recall trying to swim at Alki beach one hot summer and the water was ice cold.

Get a sense of adventure!
Or, if you have an inkling of adventure in your bones, you can rent a wetsuit at one of the many surf shops and get in the invigorating water! Lots of people surf, swim, stand up paddle, kite surf in the Washington waters!
Resources:
Welcome to Steepwater Surf Shop!
Surf Shop Home
Surf and Sand Boot Camp - Fitness Boot Camps on the Beach and Surf Lessons for all ages and levels
Chekalooka Surf Shop Online Store & Surf Site - Seattle's Original Surf Shop
You don't even need a wetsuit to wade and splash, though. My 3 year old loves the "freezing" cold water
