Small towns tend to be that way, and I'd say Bentucky has a lot of it going on (and I say that with cheery affection). I lived in a lumber town in WA where my family was about the only one that wasn't related to anyone else. Well, except for the one black family. Neither we nor they live there anymore. Thank the gods none of us 'married in'.
--Came to Washington in 1974 (Klickitat County).
--Finished HS in 1981, attended UW.
--Graduated UW 1986, lived and worked in Seattle then Shoreline.
--Moved to Tri-Cities 1997, lived here ever since.
--Traveled to most of the state except the extreme north central and northeast. Useless to answer questions very far north of I-90.
I still don't consider myself a Washingtonian, but that doesn't mean I don't like the state. I've just never mentally put down roots here, although if it's about quality of life, I can see why people are eager to do just that because it's got a lot going for it.
