Fireworks display near Olympia?
Hi guys, I have googled and come up empty handed so I figured I would ask here. My kids really want to see fireworks on the 4th and I was hoping to find a display near us. Does anyone know if they are doing one in Olympia or surrounding areas? We'd probably be willing to drive as far north as Tacoma and as far south as chehalis. We are moving that weekend so the closer the better. Thanks

The Tacoma Freedom Fair on the Ruston Way waterfront might be an option. It is an all day event with food, music, airshow, fireworks, etc. It was named one of the top 10 fireworks shows in the world a few years ago by Discovery. It is a big event so if you go be prepared to deal with a lot of people and parking. Don't go to early or you will get tired before the fireworks happen.
For a little less hassle you might want to try to get to the Browns Point Lighthouse Park to watch the fireworks. It is on the opposite side of the bay from Ruston Way. It is less packed. There is a large grass area you can sit/lay on. Same fireworks show. Less hassle. You would probably want to get there around 8pm, the show starts around 10pm.

HammBugga,
No fireworks in Olympia on the 4th. Here are some nearby places to ctach fireworks:
Fort Lewis Freedom Fest. The installation is open to the public on the 4th of July. There will be live music, food, antique cars and firworks.
Tumwater Fireworks (check the Tumwater City website)
Steilacoom 4th of July parade and fireworks. Tip: If you take the last ferry from Anderson Island back to the mainland (Steilacoom) the ferry will stop in the middle of the sound for eevryone to enjoy the fireworks, which reflect in the water. It's awesome!

Thanks Jake, the Lighthouse park sounds like a better fit. We will be moving all day and my boys will be really tired.

And just for additional information for displays not on the 4th itself, there's a small celebration and fireworks display at the South Sound Center in Lacey on July 3rd. The mall is located just a few miles northeast of downtown Olympia on Sleater-Kinney Rd.

And, the Capital Lakefair Festival annual celebration in Olympia has a fireworks display that is spectacular if viewed from across the water. Lakefair is usually a few weeks after the 4th of July. This year it's July 15-19th. So if you happen to miss the fireworks displays on the 4th, you may want to plan on taking the family to this one which will be on July 19th at 10:00 pm:

However, pertaining to Olympia, there's still no display on the 4th in the immediate Olympia/Lacey area ...except in Tumwater at 10:30 p.m. at the Tumwater Valley Golf Course.

The Ft. Lewis event sounds kinda interesting. The newspaper mentioned that the newly renovated stadium on the base would be used for seating.
