Default Blyn?

Anyone been to Blyn? I saw a neat little farm for sale in Blyn on craigslist and was wondering about the area, shopping, services nearby, general vibe. I understand it's a tiny place.Thanks.

Tiny is a good descriptor!

It's where Highway 101 jogs at the end of Sequim Bay on it's way out towards Sequim and Port Angeles. Noteworthy attractions in Blyn would include the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe Longhouse Market & Deli with adjacent Chevron station. The 7 Cedars casino is nearby.

Most of the nearby shopping would be in Sequim. Typical "big box" stores are there: Costco, Home Depot, Petco, WalMart Super Center etc. The "vibe" of Blyn is, well I can't really think of one... The small towns of Gardner and Blyn tend to be associated with Sequim in terms of "vibe".

For more significant shopping and services you would drive off of the peninsula to the Bremerton/Silverdale, Olympia/Tacoma or even Seattle area depending on the level of services you were seeking-

The town of Blyn was founded by my great-great-grandfather, Benjamin Franklin Dean. If you look behind the casino there is an old barn... that was part of my g-g-grandfather's land. He also had a house a little further up the hill there. Dean Creek which is just west of the Casino was named for the family. Blyn was named for his son, Orville. But a friend of family couldn't pronounce Orville and called in Oblyn. The name for the town was shortened to Blyn. The town use to have a hotel, post office, general store, train station and several churches. The Little Brown Church is still there, but mostly used just for weddings. There is also a family cemetery still there.

I come back after a year and a half and I see a topic about Blyn! Been staying in Blyn for several weeks now. The family co-owns a vacation home in the area, around Sequim Bay State Park, for ages. Love it dearly.

Blyn itself is more of a crossing than a populated place. In fact, "Blyn" is often used to refer to all of far west Clallam County, save for the Miller Peninsula/Diamond Point/East Sequim Bay Road area. There are three distinct sorts of areas, the farming areas, the areas along Sequim Bay waterfront and the forested mountain foothills and valleys up Palo Alto Road. It's all quite pretty and tranquil. A new feature is the extension of the Olympic Discovery Trail, which now runs from the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribal Center to Port Angeles.

The crossing area is definitely the only part that isn't completely rural, and it's very nice, thanks to a lot of energy from the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe. Despite their presence in the area, there's no reservation and the area is heavily white. Culturally, it's standard rural western Washington. Trends a bit old. You have your hippies, your gun fans, your retired military, and your in-between, but it's all pretty moderate and live-and-let-live. Politically, the area tilts slightly to the left, but all views are well-represented.

Is the farm you're looking at near Highway 101, or in the mountain foothills? The latter is absolutely stunning, but can be very isolated.

Thank you all for your replies. I just moved back up to the Mojave after a stint in Santa Monica so wasn't
able to check in till now. I love the story of how Blyn got it's name. A road near here has a similar story, It's called Gamma Gulch, turns out the kid said Gamma instead of Granma and it stuck. The small farm I saw said it was within walking distance of the Longhouse Market, and the driveway was across the road from the Discovery Trail.I lived in Washington for a few years in the early 70's, my husband and I were married in Kelso. Spent happy times at ShiShi beach camping. Now looking to leave the desert and have a nice art studio, grow some veggies and be near the cool ocean. Looking at Humboldt Ca, Oregon and Washington for a likely space to call home. The house in Blyn looks too quirky, but the land and gardens are beautiful. We need to come up and have a look see. Thanks again to all.
