Olympic Peninsula Camping
What are your favorite Olympic Pensula camp spots? We know all the state and national parks, but are wondering if anyone has a favorite private campground they recommend.
We stayed at the Port Angeles KOA and it was okay. Not as private and secluded as we prefer, which of course was expected.

Hands down, Lake Crescent. Of course, it isn't on the scale of Kalaloch, but we loved it. Take the kayak or canoe, and the hiking boots. Enjoy!

Thanks, Lookin~
Lake Crescent is indeed beautiful. We've stayed there in a cabin a few times, but now have a 5th wheel, so we'll be camping.
Where do you stay when you are there?

Just before or south I should say -Kalaloch there are a two small campgrounds.. no electric etc.. and they are full most weekends... sorry don't know the name of them but if you looked on State campground sites- great beach - I have a secret spot sorry can't share (not my property) that is adjacent to the campground beach... In the past also I have stayed at a campground on Lake Crescent - there is a little store just before it.Sorry I don't know the names. There is a campground in Lapush also - mostly all fisherman.
Not in pennisula but the Grays Harbor campground outside of Westport is huge now! They even have Yurts to rent. Have fun!

Hey,
I live out here and I LOVE Salt Creek Campground. It has great water views. The private rv park below it has a great beach to play on, but is a little more $. If you like to hide out in the woods, Altaire cg on the Elwha river is nice, so is Sol Duc cg. They are close to hiking trails. Plus, the Sol Duc falls is a short easy 30 min walk, and they're gorgeous!!!
Good luck!

Thanks, everyone, for the great suggestions! We sure do have some beautiful camping spots, both public and private, in the Pacific Northwest.
I have been doing a lot of reasearch trying to line up a 2 week trip in mid september. I am very impressed with Salt Creek! what beautiful scenergy and fantastic location right on the straights.
The only downside I see is that reservations must be made by mail. Online res. systems have definitely spoiled me! I'll have to go buy a stamp..lol
But instead I think we will drive up there this week, Port Angeles is about an hour from my home, and go to the courthouse after visiting the park and reserve in person.
I can't wait to spend time at Salt Creek. The views, recreation, hiking paths, tide pools, beaches....wow.
