Default Sandy beaches near DuPont?

I live in DuPont and I would like to find a sandy beach so my 3 year old can build sandcastles. I've been to Tolmie State Park which is semi-sand, but during high tide the sandy part is covered. Also, I've heard Sunnyside Beach in Steilacoom is sand but I really don't want to pay the $5 to park for an hour of playtime. Can anyone suggest somewhere else?

About the closest I know of is Ocean Shores. You might try Sunnyside Beach in Steilacoom but it's probably not all that sandy.

Karrie,

American Lake, just 10 minutes from Dupont, has sandy beaches where your son could build sand castles. Make sure to come down to Olympia for the annual Sand in the City event. It takes place by the Port Plaza from 21-23 August. Here is a link: Hands On Children's Museum > Sand in the City® You'll be able to see amazing sand sculptures, and your son can play in tons of sand that gets brought in for the kids. The Hands-On Children's Museum hosts the event and also offers other fun kid activities.

You're only an hour and twenty minutes from Westport! Sandy beaches with no vehicle traffic, my 3 year old loves it & I love not having to watch for cars.
