Default Best spots to kayak between Seattle and Portland?

Where are the best spots to kayak in or between Seattle and Portland? Also, how many months out of the year can one get good water activities in? I like river kayaking, but prefer flat-water kayaking. I live in Ohio, but would like to move out there next summer. Ohio weather is too cold for any water sports between October and May. Thanks for your help!

If you're okay going into open water, kayaking from Gig Harbor around Fox Island and Anderson Island is great. Hugging the shores keeps the water very smooth, and if you pay attention to the tides you can go out in the open water without any issues.
