Default Working in Longview- Where should family live?

Hello all,

We are starting to consider relocating from the Boston area for my husband to take a physician position in Longview. We know very little about the area, but the job would offer a nice quality of life, so we want to see if we can make it work. We have not heard great things about Longview itself. Where should a family with two young kids who values an exceptional school system, safety, a family community with lots of kids activities, an unpolluted environment, etc. live if one spouse needs to commute to Longview? Is there anywhere within commuting distance that would be a nice place to raise a family, or should we just scrap this idea?

Thanks in advance for any advice that you can give us!

Why not Longview? I'm not sure what you heard, but it is a completely fine small town to live in. Neighboring Kelso is also fine. Is it Boston? Absolutely not, but if you work in Longview/Kelso, it would make the most sense to live there. The schools are no better or worse than anywhere else in Washington State or Oregon. Portland, or even Vancouver, WA is 45 minutes away if you need a bigger city.

Why not talk to the other physicians (and their spouses) in the group that your husband is considering joining (or in the Longview community) and get their input? They likely value the same lifestyle advantages that you're seeking and would be able to provide you with detailed, first-hand experience.
