Default Advice on living and working in Pullman

Hi All,

I have a possible job opportunity in Pullman, WA and wanted to hear from those familiar with living and working in Pullman. I used to live in Boise and really liked it, but wages were low. Now I'm on the east coast with a well-paying job, but really miss the northwest. If this job at WSU happens, I am curious as to anyone's take on the town, the people, the downtown, the neighborhoods, crime, weather, restaurants/pubs, shopping, live music or anything else you'd like to share.

Thanks in advance for any info.

I would certainly visit the town before you accept a job there. It is an isolated, small town surrounded by rolling wheat fields. WSU is dominant in every way. There are towns with colleges, but this is a real college town. WSU has been known as a "party school", but has a decent academic reputation.

You asked about the following:

Downtown: Not much of one really, about a 2-3 block area with scattered small businesses and shops
Neighborhoods: A few upper middle class areas, an older section near the school. Lots of apartments surrounding campus
Crime: No worse than anywhere else in WA
Weather: cold & snowy Nov-Mar, warm & sunny Jun-Sep, similar to the midwest w/o the storms or humidity
Restaurants: A handful of good ones, a few more in Moscow, ID (8 miles away)
Shopping: Very little. No mall, a smallish mall in Moscow. Many go to Spokane.
Live Music: Not sure, but being a university area, concerts come in frequently

Bottom line, Boise feels like a megatropolis compared to Pullman. Those who end up enjoying Pullman tend to embrace a small town lifestyle.
