To address your questions:
1) Jobs openings are sparse to non-existent at this time. It helps if you know someone in the area who knows someone who is hiring. It will also depend upon how flexible you are, such as being willing to work the night shift flipping burgers at Jack in the Box for a few years until something more to your liking comes along.
2) Yes, some.
I would recommend (as has been repeatedly stated in other posts here) that you have a firm job lined up before you make the move to the peninsula, otherwise the current job and economic situation here can be a harsh reality.
You might have a look at the online version of the local paper (Peninsula Daily News) and scan the jobs section of the Classifieds to get started-
