Economy and job market in Mount Vernon/ La Conner area
I have been researching the possibility of moving to the Mount Vernon/ La Conner area. I am a nurse and my wife is a special education teacher. We are hoping to move the summer of 2010.
I have been checking the job board on Skagit Valley Hospital's website. What other hospitals or companys are there to look at for a RN in telemetry, critical care, heart...?
I am helping my wife look for a job as well. Any suggestions as to where I would look?
And lastly, how are things in the area? (Economy, politics, ....)
Thanks for any input !
Peace,

United General Hospital is in Sedro Wooley, not too far from Mt. Vernon, and Island Hospital is in Anacortes, also not too far.

Wow, not seeing too many openings for RNs at the three locations.
Does any one have any insight on the job market for nurses (preferably in critical care/ telemetry/ cardiac)?
We are still looking to move to the La Conner/ Mount Vernon area in July 2010 (2011 at the latest).
Thanks,

Cascade Valley Hospital isn't very big but it's about 20 minutes south of Mt. Vernon in Arlington. I don't know what Bellingham has for hospitals but it's within reasonable commuting distance of Mt. Vernon too.

Nursing postions in the NW can be tough to come by at this time given the national economy. Many hospitals are even "downsizing" RN numbers. I agree with the prior post. St. Joseph hospital in Bellingham would likely be your best bet. Here is a link to the cardiovascular center at St. Joseph:

While Mt. Vernon has historically been conservative, that's changing as it grows. For example, the Gay Rights Initiative got 51% yes votes Tuesday in Skagit County.
As aforementioned, St. Joe's in Bellingham is the largest hospital north of Everett. It's an excellent facility. There's also two large surgery centers in town as well.
25 minutes to the South, Providence in Everett is a superb Hospital with renowned Cardiac Care. The Everett Clinic has many branches in Snohomish County as well.
Good luck.
