Smile Opinions, everyone has one, and I want to hear it!

Hello folks, my first post here. This website is marvelous and I’ve spent hours reading as much as I can find about The Ports on the Olympic peninsula. I am another one of those Southern Cal residents who have had it up to here--and beyond! --with the heat and crowded conditions. I have fallen in love with Port Townsend—it seems like paradise to me (and my husband likes the name, being a Who fan).

My husband and I work from home, so we won’t need to commute. We have no kids, so we don’t need to be near good schools. We aren’t interested in city life, so close proximity to Seattle is unnecessary. We love the beach and the mountains both, and love to be in one and have a view of the other. As long as I have internet connection and FedEx and NetFlix can reach us, I’m fine!

I just recently saw a real estate video on YouTube about an estate on Dabob Bay. I was so excited, my hair almost caught fire . This is exactly what we are looking for: Peace and quiet, zero crowds and a lively, artsy town nearby, which probably means Port Townsend.

Which brings me the point of my post: I’d love to hear everyone’s opinions, good and bad (especially the bad ones) of living on Dabob Bay, Discovery Bay or the north shore. Even on the Sound south of PT. What are acreage real estate prices on average? (They can’t be more than Santa Monica or Malibu!) What is the closest grocery shopping to these areas? Is there anything really important I need to be considering? I would appreciate all comers and any and all feedback. Thanks!

Sorry, I can't help with any specific questions, but i was in PT recently for my kids baseball game, it was a beautiful sunny day, with views of the water and I thought it was a great town. Sounds like you would enjoy it, I'd recommend a quick weekend visit, you used to be able to fly round trip from CA for around $200, whatever it is now, fly into Seattle, rent a car and spend a few days. It's nice, if it were not for a need of a good job, I'd consider moving there, WA is a great state as long as you stay away from the Seattle Traffic (my biggest pet peeve).

Good luck, I'm on my way out of WA, mainly due to a job offer elsewhere.

Tony

So funny I should happen upon this one. My cousin built a home on Dabob Bay about 8 years ago. It is a beautiful, beautiful area. I don't know a great deal about it, as it has been some time since I was there. At that time, it was very quiet, and I'm sorry I don't know about shopping. Port Townsend isn't too far away, though, and it has lovely places there.
