Moving to Washington
]My husband and I are currently living in the Fresno Ca area and are seriously considering moving to Washington state in the next year or so. We are tired of the heat, smog, crime, and the lack of scenery. My husband is an accountant therefore wants somewhere closer to a city but we are from a small town and want somewhere small and with character to raise a family. We would like to live near the water, ocean, lake, or river it does not matter if possible. Any suggestions to what cities are good to work in and small towns around those cities that are good to raise a family in? Thank you!

Give Camas, WA a look. Good schools / community / river and scenery.
Fisher Investment is supposedly moving to town (from the south Bay Area), they use a few acct'z.
Vancouver has a pretty good employment base for acct'z. If you have to work in Portland, OR you will pay a 9% income tax. Benefit of Portland or Columbia Gorge 20 min away. Very close to airport, 1.2 hrs to OR Coast or Mtns. Wind surfing / kite boarding and white water is near.
Schools get good ratings in Island district also, as well as some spendy urban areas of Seattle area.
Do you have an idea whether you want 8 months of rain and a liberal political base (West side of Cascades) or 5 months of winter, and conservative bent to politics / society (Eastside)?

Gig Harbor would be a great option. You're an easy commute to Tacoma or Bremerton, and Seattle is doable, especially with the train or bus (it's only an hour drive). Good schools, gorgeous scenery, lots of water activities, great community feel.

Give the northend of Tacoma, Wash. a look. The Proctor district has a good small town like feel, good library and theatre and stores; downtown Tacoma is close.

Bellingham.
http://www.mtgfoundation.com/wp-cont...m-mortgage.jpg .
On the Sound. Great Schools. 1 hour from Skiing at Mt. Baker. 20 minutes to the border, 45 minutes to Vancouver, BC. Great University (WWU). Nice college town with little traffic, just 80 minutes from Seattle.
The scenery is pretty tough to beat.
For example, this is State Park (Larabee) is 5 minutes from town

And Lake Whatcom is in town,

As is Lake Padden

Fantastic Golf Courses and lots of them.
The cost of living isn't lowest, but it's a quality place. I moved here 5 years ago. I am a Seattle boy, but I do not miss the traffic.
