Tacoma has more bad areas, but also has some great, pretty, safe areas, and lower housing costs. For the most part, both cities are safe.

When ever you hear of a shooting, bank robbery, gang activity its 80% of the time Tacoma. If your moving to Tacoma know the areas really well. Seattle has its rough areas, but I feel alot safer in Seattle than in Tacoma even though Seattle has way more people.

That is really not true. Tacoma hasn't had that much crime in the news this year. As someone who follows the crime blogs (Seattle & Tacoma) I can tell you there is a lot more going on in Seattle these days. Tacoma hasn't had a murder in months and I believe if things keep going that way it will be the lowest murder rate in a long time. You don't hear about shootings, muggings, and stabbings in downtown Tacoma like you do in downtown Seattle on almost a daily basis. Big bad scary Hilltop hasn't even had a murder this year (1 justified homicide).

Compare a Tacoma crime blog: Lights & Sirens - The News Tribune Blogs, Tacoma, WA

to a Seattle crime blog:
Seattle 911: A police blog

Tacoma. Seattle has TERRIBLE problems with gangs and drugs and homelessness but doesn't like to talk about it ... hurts the image they like to hold of themselves and deters tourism.

I get a kick out of comments like this.

Seattle doesn't want to "talk" about its homeless problem?

That's just flat uninformed.

Homelessness is a major part of Seattle's history. For very good reason(s) The term Skid Road mean anything to you?

I suggest you go to the library and pick it up the book by that name. Murray Morgan is the author.
