Default Nile or Cle Elum which one?

My husband and I are moving form Ohio with 2 kids, dogs, horses...a farm. We are looking at Naches (Nile) and Cle Elum. What area provides the best schools, community, and land? How is the drive to Yakima from each of these towns?

Can't speak much specifics about Cle Elum other than the drive...it's fine, but it's a little far to drive to Yakima on a daily basis. If you stick on the freeways, you'll have a couple of high ridges between Ellensburg and Yakima that can get slick, but when it does, most folks just take the Canyon road between Ellensburg and Yakima.

Naches schools always had a good rep when I used to be around there---but it's been a while. Naches is considerably closer to Yakima than Cle Elum...it's really part of the Yakima area whereas Cle Elum isn't. If you are seriously looking for farm-type land, I suspect Naches is better suited for it than Cle Elum.

Things are a bit iffy in the Nile right now, with the recent landslide.
SR 410 Nile Valley Landslide (near Naches)

As I understand it, hwy 410 and the river alongside it were/are blocked, as well as the access road to the Nile area. They are building detours now. Not a huge amount of flooding, but the river is at it's lowest level of the year. The area of the slide is still unstable.

Naches is closer to Yakima as Cle Elum is about 30-45 minutes. Naches (Nile) is dealing with some slide issues. I have family that has lived in Cle Elum all their lives. They love it. Their kids are very involved in 4H and it's a nice town overall. Small, cold, in the winters, but nice for raising a family.
