There are many towns on the CA coast that meet your weather requirements, but most are really expensive. Anything from Santa Barbara up to the coast of WA won't get much snow (in CA you'll get no snow on the coast) and it will be cool in the summer (sometimes cold in the summer). In CA the only main cities that meet your weather requirments and are affordable are Eureka and Crescent City. Hope you didn't want much of a night life.....

I have friends in Eureka- they say the meth problem is outrageus. Cost of housing is also high. 300k for a dump.

Seems most everything on the west coast is extremely overpriced since everyone wants to live out here. If you can't live anywhere that's humid as well, wouldn't that pretty much rule out the coastal areas are by humid, do you mean Southern style humidity?

I'm prejudiced I guess because I've lived all over the country from North Carolina to Wisconsin to Arizona to Washington as well as several countries overseas and we absolutely love it in Mount Vernon. (Moved here from Arlington where my office is.) It's not the hub of anything - it's just a nice, smallish town.

OK it snows about maybe a week each winter, but for the rest of the year, it's great. You must already know that Washington is known for its rain but truly, right now it's about 68 degrees and cool. We just live with the rain for the sake of the cool climate. There are tons of shops (new, that is) - all the major chains, it's only an hour to Seattle and you can pretty much choose your activities and if they're not in town, then they are within driving distance.

It's definitely worth considering.
