Crossing the border with animals
I have five parrots (psittacines) and three Chihuahuas - anyone know if they really will need health certificates as I travel from California through Oregon and to my final destination in Washington??
(Have noticed, as I have driven many times from the Portland Airport to Olympia, that there is virtually "no" border as you pass from Oregon to Washington....)
Thanks in advance!!

Yeah, again, as I said yesterday, there's going to be nobody to check you anyway as you cross through the borders.
Only checkpoint is going INTO California at the argicultural check station on I-5 near Weed. And somebody told me that California has suspended their agricultural checks for awhile ...I don't know, is that true. I know that coming into California on I-15 from Nevada a few months ago, I was flagged through without having to stop.
I posted the website for animal control yesterday pertaining to requirements or lack thereof. I'll see if I can find that post and repost it here for you.
Thanks.

Here's the "regulations" of the King County Animal Services. I don't know what county you are moving to but every county will have different rules and regulations.
http://www.kingcounty.gov/safety/Ani...gulations.aspx
I don't see anything about health certificates mentioned but you can take a look at the site and see if you can find anything. Only thing I noticed was you pay a lower fee for your dog licenses if you can the documentation showing that they were neutered. I don't see anything mentioned about parrots.
Maybe somebody who has been in your situation can chime in.
Thanks.

I crossed the "border" into WA with two dogs and left with two dogs - and really, there is no "border" or "check point" - leaving or coming in when traveling through the states.
Of course, I didn't come up from CA - when I left, we went WA to Oregon and out to Utah... coming in, years ago, I went from Idaho into WA.
I would imagine that there may be a need for health certificates IF you were coming from Canada - but even then, I am not sure.

From what I can discern, heath certificates are only necessary when you fly.

The only state to state border I have seen is going into California. I thought it was strange to cross border patrol from Arizona into California? Weird.

It's primarily for agricultural checks by the state of California ...it's intention was not really for a "border patrol."
Recently, however, I have heard that they are checking trucks and RV for various violations coming into Calfornia. I suppose that they'd be covertly checking out any other suspicious activities that might be suspect. But like I said, the last time I crossed coming into California at I-15 in my car, I got waved right through without having to stop.
With that said, I've also heard that the Feds have check stations set up in select area in the states bordering Mexico. My RVing friends have told me that they've been stopped at several in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas.
Thanks.

Could be where we came into Texas (through Oklahoma) but we didn't have any check point.

The checkpoints into CA are just for agriculture. The Med. fruit fly and glassy-winged sharp shooter (and others) have the potential to devastate crops in CA.
Hopefully the parrots aren't sneaking in any fruit flies

They're going OUT of California, Kidblue.
Thanks.
