Opinions on Having a Picture Thread (Seattle: how much, floor, linear)

What's everybody's opinion on having an exclusive thread devoted to just pictures taken in Washington State? It could be a "sticky" thread put on top of the forum.

I know they do this in the Oregon forum and I always thought it a good idea because it's always there on top for anybody to reference quickly.

As you all know, Pwright1 has some gorgeous pictures posted here. The problem is, is that they get buried pages back in the threads if not posted to regularly.

You'd of course be free to post pictures in other threads too but would also be allowed to post the same picture in the "sticky" thread if you chose to do so. The picture thread would be exclusively for pictures and a brief description. Any discussion on a particular photo should be done in a separate thread.

Sound like a good idea?

I think it's a GREAT idea. What helps people move more than pictures! I know that's a huge part of what sold me. However, it should be required the person lists the city that the picture was taken in so we know what we're looking at! Ideally a short description of where in the city it was taken would help as well.

I agree! People should be as descriptive as possible for those who know nothing about Washington, like, a date or time of year for the photo. It would be nice for people to see where and how much it snows in November, for example. And it would be nice to show some SUNNY pictures of the PNW. I think most people took the joke "it rains 11 months out of the year" from Sleepless in Seattle seriously! Most people don't realize that we have a rainy season and it's usually pretty nice during the summer here. Pics are a great way to show the beauty of our region and the personal side of life here. Of course, it would have to be made clear that the pics are copyrighted.

so how is supposed to work? are the pictures on this server or do we have to host them outside (like imageshack et al)

Is this to be the thread or are we just talking about starting a thread? (I could talk about starting to work all day long)

The best way would be to host them elsewhere. You could host them here but they'd be shown as attachments to a post, I believe, and would also be limited in size.

No, don't post pictures here yet. I just wanted to see if there was any opposition to this. If there's enough positive responses, we'll open up another thread and get it started.

I don't see why there would be anyone against this, it's a great idea, and other sections have already done this with great success.

I say just open the thread now, the sooner it's open the sooner we can see some great pictures! I usually host my pictures on my Flickr account. That has a nice gallery for people to see the pictures in, I hope the "official" thread rules allow for links like that.

Can I post a link to my Flickr gallery (once I take the pictures)? It makes it a lot easier to post, host, and organize.

Maybe I could post a few of my "best" with a link to the rest of the gallery? Copying and pasting all the links with the image tags takes forever when you have a lot of pictures.
